- City Park (1.4 km);
- CUF Hospital and Pedro Hispano Hospital (2 km);
- Norteshopping and Marshopping (3 km);

Matosinhos, a coastal village near Porto, Portugal, has a deep-rooted maritime heritage that has shaped its economy and cultural identity. Located along the Atlantic, it developed as a fishing hub over centuries, with local fishermen harvesting sardines, mackerel, and other species central to the region’s cuisine and economy. In the early 20th century, Matosinhos also became a major centre for fish processing and canning, with factories that fuelled economic growth and provided employment for generations. Although some traditional factories have modernized or been repurposed, fish processing remains a cornerstone of Matosinhos’ economy, blending traditional skills with modern techniques to sustain the village’s long-standing connection to the sea.
The social fabric of Matosinhos is closely tied to its maritime roots and its proximity to Porto, which allows for a dynamic blend of urban and coastal lifestyles. Many residents commute to Porto for work, but Matosinhos retains a close-knit, community-oriented spirit, fostered by generations-old families and local traditions. Fishing and maritime industries remain central to the village’s identity, celebrated in local markets, festivals, and communal gatherings that strengthen social bonds. This blend of traditional and modern influences creates a vibrant cultural landscape where the village’s historic seafaring heritage coexists harmoniously with contemporary life.
