Casa dos Penedos, Sintra - there are many words to describe it however what are the right ones? This ’palacete’ (small palace) was commissioned to Raul Lino as a summer residence for a family that sponsored the theatre and arts - reason to have 4 ballrooms, besides a huge living room. The building is now rented to a 5* hotel for commercial events and weddings. The contract will end when a transaction takes place. The potential use should capitalize on the location, taste and class, discrete sophistication, and status:
- Return to its use as a unique residence.
- Become a cultural showcase, elite retreat, and selected business venue for an embassy, or an Institution.
- An elite-club, something not yet existing in Portugal.

This building is within the perimeter of Vila Velha, Sintra’s old town. It is located on uneven ground, on the slope of the Serra de Sintra, crowned by the Castelo dos Mouros (‘Castle of the Moors’). It stands out in the landscape, isolated and in a dominant altitude position.
The plan is composed by 3 volumes on an east-west direction, with main access through the highest level of the land. The building has a more prominent body, with the N. façade structured on three floors (one of them partially buried). The Casa Dos Penedos three modules are: a central one that stands out, and two others with a square plan in the extremes. The main façade faces south. The building is completed by a structure on a single floor, with openings only to the north side, complete with medieval-inspired architectural elements, and an imposing chimney. The employed materials include mixed masonry, painted plaster, limestone masonry, stucco, wrought iron, and wood.
